Davey Callihan picked up his first win of the season in a 75-lap Late Model feature at Old Dominion Speedway Saturday night. It was Callihan's first win since June 4 of last year.
Callihan, who started seventh, took the lead in lap 66 from rookie C. J. Faison. Faison had taken the point in lap 52 when Brandon Brown and David Polenz got together as the two fought for the lead. It was Callihan's second top five of the year -- his other was a third.
"It was awesome," Callihan said. "We finally got some luck, and the car was working good."
Faison, who started fourth, took second. In only his second Late Model race at ODS, Faison not only led his first laps but took home his best finish.
"That felt great for my second race out," said Faison, who qualified fourth.
Mike Southard, who started eighth, notched his best finish of the season with a third. It was his fourth top five of the year and second in a row.
"It was pretty good to get third," Southard said. "The late race caution helped."
Rookie Brandon Brown, who started second, finished fourth, collecting his second top five. Polenz, who started sixth, racked up a fifth. And points leader Adam Brenner, who started third, came in sixth.
In Legends, Rette Causey barreled to his third win of the season. Causey started sixth after winning the pole and got around Steve Ward for the lead in lap eight and led to the checkers.
"It felt great to win," Causey said. "The car handled perfectly. It hadn't handled that good since I got here.
Ward, who started third, finished second. It was his fifth top five of the year. Tyler Hughes, who finished 10th last week after his gear shift broke, came in third, his fifth top five of the season. Points leader Ryan Polenz, who started fourth, was fourth. Scotty Gore, who started on the pole, was fifth.
In U-Cars, Craig Oglevee motored to his fourth win of the season. Oglevee started on the pole and led the whole race.
Bryan Fox, who started last, battled his way through the field to second.
"It was great to win our fourth victory of the year," said points leader Oglevee. "I had some pressure from Bryan Fox and Morgan Duncan at the end and had to step it up."
Duncan, who started second, was third. Nathan Brasz, who started third, was fourth. Bert Brasz started fifth and finished fifth.
In Mini Modifieds, Dave Daniels rolled to his fourth win of the year. Daniels started seventh and took the lead from Joe Riley in lap 15. Riley snagged his best finish with a second. Mike Carte, who started fourth, was third. Bobby Able was fourth and Chris Johnston fifth.
"It always feels good to win," Daniels said. "We had to start sixth so we had a little bit of adversity."
