Thursday's prep roundup

The Osbourn Park High School girls lacrosse team clinched the Cardinal District regular-season title Thursday with a 14-2 win over Woodbridge. The Yellow Jackets (11-2 overall, 6-0 in the Cardinal) also clinched the top seed in next week’s district tournament. The semifinals begin Wednesday.

For Osbourn Park, Corinne Wessels had six goals and two assists, Sara Reedy had three goals, Aidan Priest had one goal and three assists, Mercedes Cox, Amanda Griffin, Kat Maniatakis and Rachel Weinberg each had one goal and Renae Griffin, Becca Heck and Maddisen Sarnecki each had one assist.

Osbourn Park goalies Taylor Andersen and Katie Joe Lang combined for 11 saves.

For Woodbridge, Jenna Gibson and KC Buckley each had one goal and Kelsey Hall had 15 saves in goal.

FOREST PARK 22, FREEDOM 0: Eleven players scored as the Bruins won their third straight to improve to 5-7 overall and 5-2 in the Cardinal District.

Senior captain Tessa Davis led the Bruins’ scoring with five goals, three assists, and eight ground balls. Senior Grace Murphy, senior Charlene Wood and junior Mallory Tluchowski each scored three goals. 

Junior Julie Brassell tallied two goals while senior Lydia Phillips, senior Colleen Childress, junior Nikki Tkac, junior Aubrey Stephenson, sophomore Claire Palermo-Re and Sarah Kolkmeyer each notched a goal. 

Sophomore Masyn Dillon made four saves in her first shutout.

 

GIRLS SOCCER

POTOMAC 5, FREEDOM 2: For the Panthers, goals were scored by senior Hannah Fulgencio, sophomore Kristen Whitehurst and sophomore Harley Guenther.

BATTLEFIELD 5, OSBOURN 2: The Bobcats scored all five of their goals within a 12-minute time span in the second half of Thursday’s Cedar Run District game. Colleen Gawkins scored two goals and Aly Shaughnessy, Alexa Wagoner and Tessa Klumpp each had one goal.

Klumpp also had three assists.

Katie Novak scored both of the Eagles goals.

Taylor Kerxton had two saves in goal for Battlefield, while Sam Frowen had 12 saves in goal for Osbourn.

Battlefield improved to 12-0-1 overall and 6-0 in the district.

 

BOYS LACROSSE

OSBOURN PARK 9, WOODBRIDGE 7: For the Yellow Jackets, Tyler Cleary had one goal, Tyler Hill had one goal and one assist, Tyler Nolan had two goals and one assist, Scott Patterson had two goals and three assists, Scott Seymour had three goals and one assist, Jonathan Shields had one assist and Ryan Cody had one assist.

Kevin Marley made six saves in goal for Osbourn Park.

Scoring for Woodbridge (6-5, 5-1) were Joseph Ruiz with 2 goals, Michael Herrity with 2 goals, Mason Wallin and Brian Shields with 1 goal and 1 assist each, Brian Gallagher with 1 goal, and James Vuillemot and Greg Petta with 1 assist each.  

Steven Estoclet and Mason Wallin with 5 ground balls each, Chris Kashmer with 4 ground balls, and Petta with 3 ground balls. Tom Maksanty won 12 out of 20 face offs. Michael Wallin had 15 saves in goal.

BATTLEFIELD 18, FOREST PARK 3: Battlefield was led by Cory Schumacher with seven goals and an assist. Colin Fowler also added three goals and an assist and Cameron Maples scored twice for Battlefield. 

Forest Park goals were scored by Joey Ciampi, Seven Fields and Seam Gambarani. Josh McCullough had 18 saves in cage for the Bruins.   

 

BOYS SOCCER

FOREST PARK 2, HYLTON 1: Sophomore Greg Boehme scored the Bruins first goal on a low driving shot past the Hylton goalie at 23:01 in the first half on a pass from sophomore Joel Teston who registered the assist.

Senior Nick Adams scored his first goal of the season on a drive from the top of the penalty box at the beginning of the second half that was assisted by sophomore Nigel Robinson to complete the Bruin scoring.

At 62:44, Hylton scored its lone goal.

Sophomore Andrew Jones had a solid game leading the Bruin defense, while goalie Stephen Schweitzer had eight saves for his ninth victory. Forest Park is 9-3-2 overall (6-3-1 in the Cardinal District).

HERITAGE 2, STONEWALL JACKSON 1: Stonewall Jackson’s Edgar Zuleta scored the game’s first goal. Raider goalie Chuck Cataloluk made 10 saves.

 

SOFTBALL

LOUDOUN VALLEY 5, STONEWALL JACKSON 2: For the Raiders, Brittany Campbell was 1 for 2 with a double, Kelsey Cockrill was 1 for 4 and Jenn Greenwood was 1 for 2. Cockrill’s hit was a double that came in the bottom of the seventh with two outs and it produced two RBI.

Cockrill pitched for Stonewall, striking out six, walking two and allowing five hits.

BATTLEFIELD 18, OSBOURN 0 (five innings): Miranda Kemp threw a no-hitter, while Bailey Liddle, Katherine Palmer and Kimmy Brady had multiple hits in the win. The Bobcats are 15-1 overall and now 6-0 in the Cedar Run District.

HYLTON 8, FOREST PARK 2: Nicole Belk threw a six-hitter and struck out nine. Shae Braxton hit her 10th home run of the season and had three RBI, Lauryn Jacobs went 2 for 3 with one run scored, Leighann Jacobs went 3 for 3 with two runs scored and an RBI and Kris Braxton scored two runs.
